20 minutes – Justice director rages because her bike is being towed

It was already night when Zurich Minister of Justice Jacqueline Fehr (SP) arrived at Winterthur main station on November 25th. As usual, she subsequently wanted to ride her bike home. But this was no longer in the place left behind – it had been towed away. The politician didn’t like that at all: «If you come home at 11:00 p.m. and have to leave at 6:00 a.m. and the bike is gone, you can get angry. And that I can be passionately upset is part of my character, »says Fehr to the« Landboten ».

Like many others, she parked the bike a little outside the mark in the morning because there was not enough stand due to a construction site in Rudolfstrasse. The same day, the police collected the illegally parked bicycles. As a result, the Minister of Justice got angry at her computer and wrote an angry e-mail to the winter building director and SP party colleague Christa Meier and the police chief Barbara Günthard (FDP).

Fehr apologizes

She wanted to complain as a private person, which is why she also wrote from her private email address. But Fehr got out of tune – with the result that the complaint soon got around in the city council and beyond. After two days, she apologized to the two city councilors. These confirm that the matter has been resolved and resolved.

Things went badly for Fehr. In retrospect, however, she can still gain something positive from her: once again, she has noticed how it feels as a citizen if the authorities regulate you. “In my role, it’s good to have this experience,” she explains. In addition, their criticism is evidently bearing fruit: when bicycle parking spaces for a temporary construction site were recently opened on Stadthausstrasse, the city communicated this well in advance and very visibly, so the Velopendler was able to prepare for it.

Building manager Christa Meier told the “Landboten” that Fehr’s complaint had been taken just as seriously as any other civil complaint. However, there is a good communication concept for Rudolfstrasse in particular: attention has been drawn to the construction step with its own website, an information event, a media release and signs. The signs can also be overlooked on the way to work, says Meier.
