20 minutes – Austria stops train traffic with Switzerland

The Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel warning for Switzerland due to the coronavirus epidemic. The neighboring country is calling on its compatriots to return. Air and train traffic to Switzerland will cease at midnight on Monday evening, according to the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis was in contact with his Austrian counterpart over the phone, as the EDA said. The FDFA took note of the measures announced. These fit into the context of dialogue and cooperation between neighboring countries to curb the spread of the virus.

In addition to Switzerland, Austria also issued travel warnings for France and Spain, as can be seen from the travel information updated on Friday. The highest security level applies to these three countries. This had previously been announced for Italy, Iran and parts of China.

Ban on events in Austria

Austria’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz also announced a ban on meetings in the country on Sunday. The Chancellor’s Office announced that no place should meet more than five people at a time. The only exceptions are anti-virus activities. Playgrounds and sports fields are closed. Restaurants will remain closed from Tuesday. The food supply is guaranteed through supermarkets and delivery service.

Briefly appealed to people to isolate themselves and to maintain only those social contacts with whom they live. According to the Ministry of Health, there are now 800 confirmed coronavirus cases in Austria. So far, a dead person has been reported.
