NASA Discovers Possible Existence of Microbial Life on Moon’s South Pole

Reported by The Byte, Saturday (10/6), this research implies that NASA astronauts who will land on the moon in 2025 are not the first living things to come to the moon.

Microbial life is thought to thrive on the moon’s south pole, which is cratered and permanently lit by the sun, said Friedrich Niche.

This becomes even more relevant, as NASA has plans to land at 13 locations on the moon’s south pole through its Artemis 3 mission.

Saxena and his team recently outlined a presentation at a workshop on this potential landing site. He stressed the importance of considering the existence of microbial life on the moon.

There is another possibility, humans left some other microbes on previous moon landing missions.

NASA organic geochemist Goddard said, “We look to humans as a possible microbial driver through our extensive data on the history of lunar exploration.”

In short, life now on the moon most likely dispersed from Earth. However, this should not discourage further research on these microbes, because they have very important implications.
