Dozens of HIV / AIDS sufferers in North Penajam Paser died

Penajam (ANTARA) – As many as 15 HIV / AIDS sufferers in Penajam Paser Utara District, East Kalimantan, have died in the past three years, said the Head of the Prevention and Control Section of Infectious Diseases at the local Health Service, Eka Wardhana.

“The list of people with HIV / AIDS in North Penajam Paser Regency is currently recorded at 103 people, and 15 of them have died,” said Eka Wardhana when contacted in Penajam, Monday.

The spread of HIV / AIDS in the North Paser Sharpener District is increasing and the findings of HIV / AIDS in the North Sharper Sharp region continue to increase.

The North Penajam Paser District Health Office recorded 63 cases of HIV / AIDS in 2018 and seven PLHIV of them died, in 2019 found 30 cases of HIV / AIDS and six of them died.

Throughout 2020, according to Eka Wardhana, HIV / AIDS management officers found 10 PLWHA, and two of them died.

The PLHIV profession recorded in the monitoring of the North Penajam Paser District Health Office on average work as private employees and two people are registered as ASN (state civil servants).

However, he explained, it was predicted that HIV / AIDS cases in the North Penajam Paser region were only a small part, because the cases were like an iceberg phenomenon.

“We are working with other institutions such as NGOs (non-governmental organizations), as well as associations for handling and controlling HIV / AIDS,” said Eka Wardhana.

“We also routinely carry out examinations and counseling as well as HIV tests, especially for pregnant women who have risk factors for using needles,” he said.

The development of HIV / AIDS in Penajam Paser Utara Regency is increasingly concerning, on average those infected with HIV are still of productive age.

HIV testing and counseling services or VCT (voluntary counseling and testing) are needed for the prevention and control of HIV / AIDS. *
