Two National Guard Members Killed in Mississippi Helicopter Crash

Tragic Accident During Routine Training Exercise

Two National Guard members tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash that occurred during a routine training exercise in Prentiss County, Mississippi, on Friday. The incident, which happened at approximately 2 p.m., has left the community mourning the loss of these brave soldiers. Local authorities are working to investigate the cause of the crash.

Mississippi Governor, Tate Reeves, expressed his deepest condolences stating, “Mississippi will always be grateful for their service, and we will never forget them.” The families of the fallen National Guard members, who were from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Tupelo, Mississippi, have been notified by the Mississippi National Guard.

Deadly crash the latest military helicopter disaster

Curiously, this tragic incident in Mississippi did not stand alone, as another military helicopter crash occurred in Pike County, Alabama, on the same day. Fortunately, the crash in Alabama resulted in only minor injuries to two Army pilots. The incident involving a UH-72 Lakota helicopter happened around 2:35 p.m.

These two recent crashes join the list of recent military helicopter disasters, with the most notable being the helicopter crash in the mountains near San Diego, California, on February 8th. The California crash claimed the lives of five Marines who were aboard the CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter during routine flight training.
