Merdeka.com – Scientists believe that the shape of the Earth’s core is a large iron ball. However, new discoveries have shown that the Earth’s core is surrounded by unexpectedly ancient structures.

According to a new study, published in Science Advances, high-resolution maps of the underlying geology of the southern hemisphere reveal these findings. The study claims that ancient structures that scientists believe to be the ocean floor have surrounded the planet’s core.

This unexpected discovery could shed more light on Earth, something scientists have been exploring and trying to understand for hundreds of years. The researchers involved in the study used 15 different monitoring stations buried in the Antarctic ice to trigger the mapping.

These monitoring stations detect seismic waves as they travel through the ground. By studying how seismic waves travel through the Earth’s core, we can detect the structure and composition of what is beneath the Earth.

Reporting from BGR, Sunday (16/4), the data collected by this monitoring station shows that the ancient structures surrounding the Earth’s core have valleys and mountains, because the thickness of the material varies from place to place. Scientists believe the structure may be the remains of an ancient sea floor that lies beneath Earth’s surface.

Of course, scientists say it is difficult to make assumptions about the rocks and materials found through seismic monitoring alone. But, for now, the signs they found point toward the remains of ancient structures, which may be the ocean floor, surrounding Earth’s core.
