great hurricane
Fiona continues her journey across the Caribbean with Category 2 intensity. Meteorologists predict that the storm will reach Category 4 hurricane status as it moves north. It has already caused considerable damage on the island of Puerto Rico. A general blackout affects the entire electricity grid.
Atmospheric drinker
Typhoon Merbok impacts as far as Quebec. Indeed, the tropical storm generated a hollow atmosphere that brings a particularly cool and gloomy climate. This atmospheric context could also cause problems as Fiona makes her way back to Canada. The hurricane, which is turning into a post-tropical storm, could be sucked into the depression and move west.
Two possibilities
Current models predict that Fiona will follow an unfavorable trajectory for eastern Canada. Indeed, should the storm turn west, the Maritimes could be hit hard. Newfoundland and Nova Scotia are in the firing line, as are the Îles-de-la-Madeleine. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected.
