20 minutes – police cordon off hotel – 1,000 guests in quarantine

The Spanish health authorities have diagnosed a new coronavirus case in the country. On the Canary Island of Tenerife, a visitor from Italy had been tested positive for the new virus, the television reported on Tuesday night, citing the local health authorities.

You should save this number in your contact list right away, because you can send photos and videos to the 20-minute editorial team via WhatsApp.

According to the broadcaster RTVE, the man is a 69-year-old doctor from Lombardy, the area most affected by the virus in northern Italy at the moment. His hotel has now been quarantined.

As the local newspaper “Diario de Avisos” writes, 1,000 guests are now stuck. They are not allowed to leave their accommodation and will also be tested. It is still unclear whether Swiss guests are among the guests.

“We can see security guards in front of the hotel and around 50 hotel employees from the window,” said British vacationer Christopher Betts in a phone call to Reuters.

According to the British guest, the hotel pushed a message to its guests through the room doors to inform them about the protective measure. All guests would have to stay in their rooms until the health authority decides otherwise, the letter says in Spanish, English, French, German, and Italian.

The affected «H10 Costa Adeje Palace» is a four-star hotel with 467 rooms on the Canary Island. The hotel management was initially not available for comment.

A German had previously tested positive on the Canary Island of La Gomera. The man has already been released.
