20 minutes – Manor attacks Migros and Coop with new service

Because of the corona shutdown, many people no longer want to buy their groceries in the store, but online from home. The delivery services of Migros and Coop have had their hands full in the past few weeks, delivery dates are booked out for weeks.

Do you order groceries online?

Manor now wants to benefit from the current rush to online food shops: the department store is launching a new food delivery service. As Manor reports, you want to react to the booked dates of most delivery portals and remedy the situation. The department’s food department is now delivering orders to customers’ homes. In addition, Manor complements its existing online offering with 150 different products such as sugar, pasta or toilet paper for basic needs.

«A virtue made out of necessity»

Fabian Hildbrand, spokesman for Manor, says to 20 minutes that the new offer also wants to accommodate existing customers. But: «We hope that this spontaneous home delivery service will also win over one or two customers. Especially when there are long waiting times with the competition. »

The idea for Manor Food’s home delivery service only emerged during the Corona crisis. “We have therefore made a virtue of necessity, so to speak,” says spokesman Hildbrand. It is currently planned to limit this service only to the time of the shutdown: “The corresponding home deliveries will only remain during the Corona crisis.”

According to Manor, a total of 500 food products, including fresh products such as vegetables or fruits, can be ordered by customers or can be picked up in one of the 30 Manor food branches. Manor writes that the delivery service was launched within a few days. During normal shop opening hours, the food stores only accept grocery orders by phone or email.

Manor wants to deal with rush

When asked whether seniors can also be supplied free of charge, as has recently been the case with Migros and Coop, Hildbrand replies: “When ordering, we do not differentiate between age groups. If you live less than 10 kilometers from such a branch, a purchase from CHF 50 will be delivered free of charge. » A cost contribution of CHF 15 is estimated within 10 to 20 kilometers.

Couldn’t Manor’s new service be overloaded like that of Coop @ Home or LeShop? Hildbrand remains cautious: «We think we will do justice to the rush. But in this corona crisis, you never know what’s going to happen. »
