The Iraqi roots of the Israeli third party leader

Itamar Ben Gvir built his political credentials on hatred of Arabs

Overnight Itamar Ben Gvir became the political leader of Israel’s third largest party, overtaking the party of generals, led by the army chiefs of staff (Benny Gantz and Gadi Bizenkot) in the elections.

Ben Gvir himself, who began his political career in a demonstration against Jewish women, does not believe what is happening to him. In the previous elections he did not exceed 20,000 votes, while in the last election he obtained more than 420,000 votes, becoming the second winner after Benjamin Netanyahu.

Itamar Ben Gvir was born in 1976, in West Jerusalem, to parents of Iraqi origin. His father was also born in Jerusalem, but his grandfather is considered to be a descendant of a Jewish family that lived in Iraq for centuries. His mother, of Iraqi Kurdish origin, was involved in the youth movement of the “Etzel” organization, the military arm of the right-wing reformist movement of the Zionist movement. The British arrested her at the age of fourteen. Including bin Ghafir he has also breastfed political extremism.

Ben Gvir remained on the sidelines of Israeli politics until May 2021. He took advantage of the numerous clashes between Jews and Arabs that took place in mixed cities, and witnessed every confrontation and every battlefield. He was known for his loud voice, constant yelling and unbridled attacks on his opponents. And he was always ready to make provocations that would provoke the media. So he came to the hospital to meet and scold a Palestinian prisoner on hunger strike, and there he met Deputy Ayman Odeh and clashed hard with him. And he led several groups of settlers to pray in the courtyard of Al-Aqsa.

Against this backdrop of his hatred of Arabs, Ibn Ghafir built his glory and found Jews who follow him and those who encourage him among Jewish politicians, and he exploited every hot claim of Arab politicians to fuel hate instincts for the Arabs.
