Scientists have discovered a planet 640 light years away from Earth, whose sky is raining iron, due to the difference in temperature, according to the British newspaper “The Independent”.
The scientists mentioned that the temperature reaches 2400 degrees Celsius on one side of the planet far from Earth called WASP-76b, which leads to the evaporation of minerals from the surface of this side.
They added that the other side of the planet is cool, and these vaporized minerals reach it through strong winds. Due to the low temperature, these minerals condense and fall in the form of rain from iron.
According to “The Independent”, astronomers were able to look at the planet using the new ESPRESSO tool, and discovered clear differences between the sides of the planet.
“It can be said that this planet is raining iron,” said David Ehrenrich, a professor at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, who headed the study that led to the discovery of this planet. He explained that the side that is characterized by high temperature lives in a daytime atmosphere, because it is in the face of the star that the planet follows, unlike the other side, which lives in a night atmosphere where darkness is permanent.
The newspaper stated that the scientists say that the difference between the two sides causes the wind, which is loaded with iron steam, to blow later as rain.
