WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden is facing a decline in support among young voters, suggests a recently conducted poll, as dissatisfaction grows over his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict and other pressing issues. The data reveals a significant shift in the sentiments of this crucial demographic.
Youth Poll Highlights Significant Changes
The latest Harvard Youth Poll, conducted among 2,010 18-29-year-olds, reveals a downward trend in support for President Biden. Among registered young voters, Biden would outperform Trump by a margin of 50% to 37%, while among likely young voters, the margin extends to 56% to 37% in Biden’s favor. However, the poll shows a closer competition among all young adults below 30, with 45% supporting Biden and 37% leaning towards Trump. Notably, 16% of Americans still remain undecided, hinting at the dynamic nature of the upcoming election.
In a comparative perspective, President Biden had a more substantial lead among young voters at this stage during the 2020 election, as indicated by the poll. At that time, 60% of likely young voters under 30 had pledged support for Biden, while only 30% had favored Trump. The figures for young adults as a whole favored Biden at 51%, with Trump lagging at 28%.
Intriguing Trends Captured by the Poll
One area driving young voters to engage with the political landscape is the Israel-Hamas conflict. As indicated by the poll, a higher number of young Americans believe Israel’s actions to be unjustified rather than justified. Additionlly, immigration has emerged as another heated topic. The poll uncovers a complex reality, revealing that while 53% of young Americans perceive a crisis at the southern border, 50% agree that immigrants “improve the culture” of the United States, whereas 45% oppose the construction of a border wall, highlighting the polarized viewpoints.
Biden’s Weak Support Among Young Voters
Various polls hint at lackluster support for President Biden among young voters. For instance, a recent USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll released in January displayed a narrow lead for President Trump among registered voters under 35, with 37% pledging support for Trump and 33% backing Biden.

“Young people today have clear concerns about where our country is headed,” said Setti Warren, the director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School. “From worries about the economy, foreign policy, immigration, and climate, young people across the country are paying attention and are increasingly prepared to make their voices heard at the ballot box this November.”

The aforementioned poll was conducted between March 14 and March 21 and included 2,010 18-29-year-olds. The data maintains a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points, ensuring an accurate representation of the youth sentiment.
