TALLAHASSEE,FL – December 7,2024 - In a solemn tribute to the lives ⁣lost during ⁣the attack on Pearl Harbor, flags across Florida will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset today,Sunday,December 7th. ‌The lowering of ‍the flag honors the more than 2,400 Americans killed in the ⁣surprise military strike by Japan‍ on December 7,‌ 1941, which propelled the United⁣ States into world ⁢War II.

the annual observance, designated⁢ National ⁢Pearl Harbor⁢ Remembrance Day by Public Law ⁢103-308, was approved by ⁢Congress in 1994 and calls for ‌the President to issue a⁣ proclamation ⁢urging the nation to remember the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.⁣ The law specifically requests that federal agencies and citizens fly‌ the U.S. flag at half-staff in remembrance of those who died consequently of their service at Pearl Harbor.

Flags should be⁢ raised briskly to⁢ the⁢ top of the pole for a moment before being slowly lowered to the half-staff‌ position. Before being lowered for the day,⁢ the flag ‍should again be raised to the top. it’s crucial to note that the proper terminology‍ differs depending on location:⁢ flags are flown at half-staff ⁤on shore and at half-mast on ships and naval stations.

BOSTON – The United States flag and‌ the Massachusetts state flag will be flown at half-staff across the commonwealth from sunrise to sunset‍ on Sunday, December 7, in remembrance of⁤ the attack on Pearl Harbor. The observance honors the more than 2,400 Americans killed and over a⁣ thousand ‌injured in the December‍ 7, 1941, ⁣attack that propelled the United States into World War ⁤II.

This annual tradition serves as a solemn acknowledgment⁤ of the sacrifices made during a pivotal moment in American history.‌ The flag lowering is a national ‍sign of respect and mourning, extending to all‍ public buildings and grounds, including those throughout Massachusetts.

Why are flags flown at half-staff?

Flags are‍ traditionally flown at half-staff to signify mourning, ⁤typically following national tragedies, on designated days of remembrance, ⁣or ‍to honor the deaths of goverment officials or members ‍of the military.⁣ The practise is a longstanding symbol of respect and national unity during times of grief.

According to the U.S. General Services Management, the authority to‌ order flags flown at half-staff rests ⁢with the President, state governors, or the mayor of Washington, D.C.

Half-staff vs. half-mast

The terms “half-staff” and ”half-mast” are often used interchangeably, but‍ they have distinct meanings. Half-staff refers‌ to flags lowered on land, ⁤while half-mast applies to flags flown on ships at sea. Both signify a flag being flown below the top of its‍ pole or mast‌ as a mark of respect.

White House Doubles Down: Sabrina Carpenter ‘Illegal’ Video Sparks Outrage

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor December 7, 2025
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

The White House doubled down on using Sabrina Carpenter-related material in their ICE deportation videos after the pop star slammed them for their “inhumane agenda” in response to the Trump administration using her song “Juno” in a social media video earlier this week. While that video has since been pulled from X (a version remains on TikTok as of press time), it has now been followed by another one.

On Friday, the White House posted a new video on social media, which opens with a clip of Carpenter in a manipulated commercial from her recent Saturday Night Live appearance. In the clip, she’s standing next to cast member Marcello Hernandez. The audio has been altered, making it appear as if she’s calling Hernández “illegal” instead of “hot.”

In the original SNL commercial, Carpenter says, “I think I might need to arrest someone for being too hot.” Hernández then responds, “Oh well, I turn myself in” as he puts his hands out, looking ready to be cuffed, and she says, “You’re under arrest.” (During Carpenter’s recent tour, she would playfully “arrest” someone in the crowd with fuzzy pink handcuffs during her performances of “Juno.”)

In the manipulated White House clip that replaces Carpenter’s original voiced “hot” with someone’s voice saying “illegal,” it then cuts to allegedly undocumented immigrants being chased and arrested. The White House captioned the new video, “PSA: If you’re a criminal illegal, you WILL be arrested & deported.”

Carpenter has not yet responded publicly to the White House’s latest clip using her in a manipulated SNL commercial. A rep for Carpenter did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s request for comment.

The new video was posted after the first one using Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet song “Juno” was taken down from X. The initial one featured people ostensibly protesting against ICE raids, before it transitioned to a montage of agents appearing to chase down and detain allegedly undocumented immigrants.

Carpenter responded to the White House post that used “Juno” in a comment, writing, “This video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.”

Trending Stories

Abigail Jackson, a White House spokesperson responded to Carpenter’s objections, telling Rolling Stone in a statement, “Here’s a Short n’ Sweet message for Sabrina Carpenter: We won’t apologize for deporting dangerous criminal illegal murderers, rapists, and pedophiles from our country. Anyone who would defend these sick monsters must be stupid, or is it slow?”

In a similar video last month, the White House and the Department of Homeland Security posted a video that showed ICE agents conducting raids and arrests, using Olivia Rodrigo’s song “All-American Bitch.” Rodrigo responded on Instagram, “Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.”

Honduras Election Uncertainty: OAS Scrutiny & Calls for Annulment

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 7, 2025
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Honduran election ⁤results⁤ Contested Amidst Concerns of Irregularities

preliminary results from Honduras‘ recent presidential election ⁢show Nasry Asfura, a candidate reportedly supported by Donald Trump, leading with 40.20%⁤ of the vote. His closest⁤ competitor, Salvador Nasralla, currently holds 35.9% of the support with over 88%⁢ of⁢ ballots tallied. Though, the election is facing meaningful scrutiny and accusations⁤ of irregularities.

The ‌Organization of American States (OAS) electoral observation mission has ‍voiced strong criticism regarding the vote ⁤counting‍ process, citing a “marked lack of expertise” in ⁣both its advancement and execution. Led by former Paraguayan foreign Minister Eladio Loizaga, the mission ‍highlighted “obvious delays” ⁢and technical problems, specifically pointing to⁤ intermittencies in the management and processing of ⁢electoral ⁢materials. The OAS has called for a renewed and expedited count, emphasizing the need for⁣ “traceability⁢ measures that provide certainty in the results.” Concerns ‍have also been raised ⁢regarding inconsistent availability of results ⁣published on the⁣ National Electoral Council (CNE) website.

The ⁣ruling Libre party has formally requested the annulment of the presidential election, alleging fraud and claiming ⁣a “coup” ⁣against ‌their ⁣candidate, Rixi Moncada, who currently trails with‍ 19% of the vote. marlon Ochoa, a CNE advisor representing Libre, stated that 86.6% ⁣of the tallied minutes⁤ contain “errors and ⁢inconsistencies.” ⁢ Libre’s petition to the ‍CNE cites violations of the Constitution and Electoral law,⁢ including‍ alleged alteration of voter intent and issues with the preliminary results transmission ⁤system (TREP) – a system used on election night. They claim vote numbers were adulterated during transmission via TREP.

Salvador Nasralla ‍has rejected the call for annulment, arguing that the focus should⁢ be‌ on accurately counting ‍the⁢ votes already cast. He attributed the issues to the performance of ASD,a Colombian company hired at the last minute to manage the recount, citing its “bad ‌record.”

asfura, the frontrunner, has remained largely silent ‌on the ‌matter, though ⁤he previously stated⁢ he would refrain from highlighting inconsistencies or fueling uncertainty.

The ⁤OAS has urged citizens and political parties to continue exercising ⁣their legal ‌rights of supervision and surveillance throughout the remaining stages of the process, including the accounting ⁢of remaining records, special⁣ scrutiny, and the handling of challenges. They emphasize ⁣the‌ need⁤ for “total clarity,⁤ maximum efficiency ⁣and without any⁤ type of delay” in these‍ final steps.

How the Supreme Court boosted Democrats in California and elsewhere by redrawing House maps

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 7, 2025
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

supreme‌ Court Decision Fuels ⁤Democratic Redistricting⁢ Efforts in Virginia and Beyond

WASHINGTON – A recent Supreme ⁤Court⁢ decision⁣ upholding a Texas congressional map, while seemingly a‌ win for Republicans in that state, has galvanized Democrats nationwide to aggressively pursue favorable redistricting in states ⁣where they hold power, notably in Virginia. The ruling, which rejected claims that the ⁤Texas ⁢map illegally diluted the voting power of minority voters, has underscored a sense among Democrats that they cannot rely ⁤on the courts to protect their interests in the⁢ redistricting process.

The decision arrives at ⁣a pivotal moment as states prepare⁣ for the 2024 elections. With unified control of the governorship and both legislative chambers in Virginia, Democrats are ‌poised to redraw⁣ congressional ‌maps ‍potentially giving them a significant advantage. While Republicans may still be ‍competitive in⁤ redrawn texas districts, the Supreme Court’s action has spurred Democrats to take matters‍ into their own hands, viewing ⁢the court as⁢ unlikely to intervene in partisan redistricting⁤ efforts.

Virginia House‌ Speaker Don Scott recently stated that a map awarding⁢ Democrats an ⁢advantage in 10 of the state’s 11 congressional districts “is not outside‌ the realm‌ of⁤ possibility.” This ambition ⁢is fueled by the understanding that the court will likely⁢ not block aggressively drawn maps. Virginia‍ Senate ‍President Pro ⁤Tem Louise Lucas signaled a retaliatory approach on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing, “I have something waiting for Texas…” and promising to follow‍ anyone ⁣tweeting about the issue.

The Supreme ⁢Court’s decision has also reinforced⁢ the determination of‌ groups like the‍ National Democratic⁢ Redistricting Committee. “It’s clear that no one is coming to save us,” said Marina Jenkins, the committee’s executive director. “The cavalry is not coming. If we are going to fight for our democracy, we have to do it ourselves.” This sentiment reflects a⁣ broader strategy⁢ shift, with Democrats focusing on maximizing their influence in⁣ states where‍ they control the ⁤redistricting process, rather than seeking judicial intervention.

WASHINGTON – President ‍Trump on Saturday awarded the 2025 Kennedy Center ⁤Honors medals to a group of artists including singer Gloria Gaynor, actor ‍Sylvester Stallone,⁢ country music star George Strait, and the rock band KISS. The ceremony,‌ traditionally ‌held at the Kennedy Center, was moved by the President to the ⁣White House.

“We ‌have⁢ the disco ‍queen, and she was indeed, and nobody did it like Gloria Gaynor,” Trump said of Gaynor. He described Stallone as a “splendid” and⁤ “spectacular” person, “one ‍of the true, ‍great movie stars” and “one of the great legends.” KISS was lauded as an “astonishing ⁤rock band.”

Songs by Gaynor and KISS were played in the Rose⁢ garden as the White House press corps awaited the ceremony. The 2025 honorees were personally‍ announced by Mr. Trump in August, marking the ⁣first slate⁤ chosen under his ⁢leadership. Traditionally, the honorees are announced via press release, following a⁢ selection by ‌a bipartisan ⁣committee.

“These are among the greatest artists, actors and performers of their ‌generation. The greatest ⁤that we’ve⁤ seen,” Trump stated. “Each of ⁤you has made an indelible mark on American life and together you have defined entire genres and set new standards⁣ for the performing arts.”

The President also attended an annual State‌ Department dinner for the honorees Saturday evening. The Kennedy Center Honors program, ‍featuring tribute speeches ‍and performances, will be taped on ⁣Sunday at the ⁣performing arts center for broadcast later in ⁣December on CBS and Paramount+.‌ Mr.trump, accompanied‌ by First Lady Melania Trump, is scheduled to attend ⁣the program for the‌ first time as president, ⁢and will be ⁢the first president to⁣ serve as host. He predicted ⁤the broadcast would achieve its highest ratings ever.
