More real support for electrification and less marketing

news-body-center">

The automobile, mobility, transportation in general makes all society faces a profound change with the arrival of electrification, the autonomous car or the shared vehicle. All these changes are going to affect our habits, the way we move and therefore we they will change life. Beyond the changes that will affect our way of life, we must also analyze the changes in the associated industry and in society, necessary to implement all this revolution.

The automotive sector, as an important part of this great change, is making a deep transformation And he does it in an accelerated way to try to get ahead of events. Decarbonisation is the key to the immediate future. In this sense, the Volkswagen group, for example, will invest 46,000 million euros in the next five years for the electrification of its vehicles, 35,000 million in 100% electric cars and another 11,000 million in plug-in hybrid models. We can also talk about the Group Toyota o de Hyundai, Mercedes, BMW, the Renault Group or PSA. All manufacturers have made a brutal bet on electrification.

On the other hand, citizens they are also increasingly motivated by the shift towards electrification. All this despite the fact that in many cases it will mean modifying their daily lifestyle. Adapt the home or workplace to the new needs posed by this future mobility, more focused on electrification. But also the implications of shared mobility or the greater use of public transport or the city center limited to private traffic.

The manufacturers of automobiles and commercial and industrial vehicles do their part of the work and the same thing happens, little by little, with the citizens, but it is essential for this revolution to work that countries help. It also takes an implication on the part of the administrations of the different countries and cities so that all this electrical revolution comes to fruition. When to early 20th century automobiles arrived, with them also came the development of a complex infrastructure, they began to be roads already extend a wide gas station network to service the new “horse of steel”.

Now we are facing the same challenge, manufacturers are doing their job quickly and well, spending a lot of money for it, and citizens, within their economic limitations, are tackling the big change. What is needed now is that the administrations really fulfill their mission. This is none other than providing all the necessary infrastructure so that mobility stops being a polluting activity and becomes zero emissions and, above all, much more rational.

The European Union estimates that by 2030 they will need at least 2.8 million points recharging while 2019 closed with 199,825 operational charging points. And of them, only 1 in 7 correspond to fast charging points. In four countries accumulates 75% of the entire infrastructure of public charging points installed. They are Germany, Holland, France and the United Kingdom, which however only represent the 27% of the territory European. This shows that the administrations, with few exceptions, are not doing their part.

In this sense, Spain is way behind in the deployment of charging infrastructures. The example of the Moves plan shows that it is not being done well, at least in Spain. This plan was announced with great fanfare last June, no less than five months ago, and of the 100 million euros budgeted only 44% has been spent. The causes, on the one hand, that two of the autonomous communities have not even started it.

What has worked best, oddly enough, are the shopping aids of vehicles, which have already exhausted 66% of the allocated budget. In the specific case of Madrid and Barcelona they were sold out in just a few weeks. The problem is that of the 100 million euros budgeted, the 70 % corresponded to investments in the installation of infrastructures, in shared electric bicycle actions or in transportation plans to work. And this part is the least developed.

If we want more electric cars to be sold, which seems to be the Government’s objective, we must put all the necessary tools to achieve it quickly, and not as before. Needless announce a plan with many millions of euros, as the Government does every time it speaks of support for the automotive sector, but we must achieve that really be effective. It has to convince the citizens and allow rapid deployment. This is what society, citizens, cities and also car manufacturers need. But above all the planet needs it.
