This Sunday, after completing 144 days since the confirmation of the first death from Covid-19, the Ministry of Health reported zero deaths in Barranquilla.
According to the District Health Secretariat, the trends that have been positive in recent weeks in the number of infections and deaths are consistent with the departure of the first peak of the pandemic that was evidenced in the capital of the Atlantic in mid-July .
“This is an important data that is directly related to the decrease in positive cases and hospital consumptions,” said the Secretary of Health, Humberto Mendoza.
The Mayor’s Office highlighted the importance of maintaining these results so that the city – gradually and responsibly – can enable more commercial sectors.
“We must continue in a civic commitment using the mask, maintaining physical distance and washing our hands frequently,” insisted the Secretary of Health.
In the most recent Minsalud report, 168 infections were registered in the capital of the Atlantic.
Other figures from the Ministry of Health reveal that the availability of intensive care units is 48%. The total of recovered is 87.7% and hospitalized is 0.7%.
The tendency
Since April 2, when the first death from coronavirus was reported, Barranquilla maintained figures of one digit until the beginning of June.
In the middle of that month, the behavior changed and the curve was ascending until July when up to 44 deaths were reported in one day.
In August the trend was downward, at least as shown by the single-digit figures that have been maintained in recent weeks.
To date, this territory adds 1,596 deaths.
Actions
Among the actions to mitigate the pandemic, the Mayor’s Office highlights the joint working groups between EPS, IPS, ARL and other actors.
In addition to actions such as active community search, health fences, Covid patrols, control and security with the presence of the Army and the Police; the special call center to attend to emergencies, the +60 strategy focused on the population over 60 years old
