On March 26, 2020, M6 began broadcasting the Why Women Kill series from the creator of Desperate Housewives. Discovered in Snow White in Once Upon a Time, Ginnifer Goodwin is the star of the soap and plays Beth Ann. Marie the actor Joshua Dallas and mother of two young children, she answered 20 minutes exclusively.
You played Snow White for six years in Once Upon a Time. Aren’t you afraid of being associated with this character forever?
I was afraid of that, but my new series will quickly make you forget that I may have been Snow White in the past. You only have to watch an episode of Why Women Kill to understand that I am far from playing a fairytale princess (laughs).
How can we describe this fiction?
The series follows the life of three wives who live in the same house in different times and who all have one thing in common: an unfaithful husband. Even if society has changed over the decades, each woman has the same desire for revenge in the face of infidelity and each reacts in their own way. It’s a real thriller with unexpected twists that can go as far as murder.
Is your husband afraid of you now?
Joshua is mostly afraid because he doesn’t know what’s going on in the series. I am held to the greatest secrecy. Our author, Marc Cherry, told me everything by asking me not to say anything. But our couple is fine, no desire for murder when I come home (laughs).
Have your two children, Oliver, 5, and Hugo, 3, seen you in Snow White or Beth Ann?
No, but I’m trying to explain to them what mom and dad’s job is (note: Joshua Dallas is also an actor). It’s not simple. During the shooting, it’s bad because I leave the house at 4am to go to the studios and they wake up crying because mom is not there to take them to school. It breaks my heart. So I explain to them how much mom loves her job and how important it is to have this balance. And my 5 year old son saw posters of the city series.
What was his reaction?
Oliver read the sentence All men are capable of infidlit on the poster, it is the slogan of the soap. Since then, he has repeated to everyone, including his teachers at school (laughs). Difficult to explain to him!
The previous series created by Marc Cherry, Desperate Housewives, has been a successful standard for eight seasons. Ready for this?
This would be the most beautiful gift. For the moment, we have only committed to one season, but I love the universe that Marc Cherry imagined and I could continue for years. He has a unique talent for writing fascinating roles for women.
Why Women Kill sees all the events from a female point of view. How do you explain this when the screenwriter is a man?
Not only was he always close to his mother, but he told me that, during his childhood, he hid behind the sofa in the living room to listen to his mom talking with his friends. Even today, Cherry is the first to chat with the women on her set to find inspiration or add details to the characters.
