Tips for Choosing the Best Energy Supplier After Contract Ends

The contract with the energy supplier ends for a number of clients at the end of the summer. Hundreds of them have already received a new price offer, but it is well above the government ceiling. Economists advise not to approach it and to be careful. It is said that now is the ideal time for a possible change of supplier.

PRE customer Ladislav Vachko’s contract ends at the end of the summer. He received a new contract from the electricity supplier with a new price offer, i.e. almost 10 crowns per kilowatt, even though the government ceiling is around 6 crowns.

“So I called the customer line, where I said that I did not agree with that price. We said goodbye to the fact that I would be leaving, and within five minutes I received another price offer by mail, which is roughly half the price,” described Vachek .

“It so happened that in the middle of July, because his contract will end on August 31st, we sent an offer that was valid at that time. Shortly after that, the company’s management decided to reduce the price of electricity below the government ceiling for all our customers, Petr Holubec, spokesman for the PRE energy company, said.

According to the company’s spokesperson, there may be approximately 1,500 such clients. Electricity and gas suppliers are gradually reducing prices drastically, even by tens of percent. According to economists, people should therefore be careful and compare the price per kilowatt with individual suppliers, for example in the case of electricity.

“That’s why it’s currently the ideal time for consumers to actually start taking an interest in what kind of contract they have, whether the prices are at the level of the government ceiling and to think about how long they will fix the prices for,” advised economist Petr Studnička.

A one-year fixation is said to be ideal. “I would recommend that people avoid dynamic tariffs, when prices can change every month. With the arrival of the winter season, the market can fluctuate,” said economist Štěpán Křeček.

The government ceiling on energy prices is expected to be in place until the end of the year. According to earlier statements, the government no longer plans to extend it.
