“Study Finds Earth Safe from Celestial Attacks for Next 1000 Years, Says Research Team”

Merdeka.com – A study discussing the orbits of space taxis managed to find the fact that Earth will be safe from attacks by celestial bodies for at least another 1000 years.

Previously, NASA and other observatories have tracked the orbit of the solar system and watched for objects that are near Earth. So far, astronomers have succeeded in predicting the existence of objects that are expected to exist for the next 100 years.

However, there is other good news coming from a research team led by Oscar Fuentes-Muñoz of the University of Colorado Boulder. These scientists managed to predict the path of the asteroid for a much longer time, that is, for the next 1000 years.

Previously, the team realized that predicting risks about the universe for longer timescales was a challenge. This is due to the orbital uncertainties which continue to grow and move over time.

“To overcome this limitation we analyzed the evolution of the Minimum Orbital Interaction Distance (MOID), which limits the probability of a closest encounter between an asteroid and Earth,” the team explains in their paper.

The MOID evolution they studied focused on celestial objects that were near Earth for longer periods of time.

“We propose this method to estimate the probability during this period,” they wrote quoted from IFL Science, Monday (22/5).

Through the proposed method, the research team revealed that most of the celestial objects around Earth are harmless for at least the next 1000 years.

Through a study published in The Astronomical Journal, they said that the chance that the Earth might be attacked by a celestial body before the year 3000 is only 0.00151 percent.

However, researchers also say that they are not entirely sure they have detected all celestial objects that are near Earth, and there is always a possibility that these unseen objects could be heading towards Earth.

But at least they hope that the approach used in this study can be an option to identify objects that have the potential to attack Earth in the future. Because according to the research team, predictions of long-term danger need to be made as one of the planet’s defense efforts from attacks by celestial bodies.
