We don’t need an autopsy to know Oklahoma failed Nex Benedict
It is clear that the bullying and intolerance Nex Benedict faced contributed to their untimely death. Oklahoma, particularly its school superintendent Ryan Walters, must reflect on their harmful policies that dehumanize transgender youth and perpetuate an environment conducive to bullying and suicide. The circumstances surrounding Nex’s life and death call for condemnation of these systemic failures that allowed such tragedy to occur.

Response to Nex’s story and the call for accountability from Ryan Walters has unfortunately been met with dismissive and discriminatory rhetoric.
