Since February, virologist Drosten has been using the “Corona Virus Update” to classify current developments in the pandemic. For that the NDR-Podcast now receives the renowned Grimme Online Award. The Youtuber Rezo also received an award.
The podcast “The Corona Virus Update” with the Berlin virologist Christian Drosten won the Grimme Online Award. The NDR-Production was awarded the coveted prize for outstanding network offers by the Grimme jury in the “Information” category and also received the audience award.
“The ‘Corona Virus Update’ demonstrates that even extensive science journalism can captivate the audience – and also opens up new groups of listeners for the medium podcast,” says the reasoning.
Podcast every working day initially
Of the NDR started the podcast in February and since then it has become a huge success. Drosten takes a look at the latest developments in the coronavirus pandemic. In the beginning there was the podcast every working day, later only twice a week. The podcast is currently in the summer break.
The video reportage format “STRG_F”, which is aimed at young viewers, was also recognized in the information area. It is also from NDR produced. The third prize winner in this category is the “NSU-Watch” weblog, which documents the processes surrounding the murders of the right-wing extremist terrorist group “National Socialist Underground”.
Prize also for Rezo video for the CDU
There were also three award winners in the Knowledge and Education category. The online reportage project “Die Donation” of the magazine “Stern” deals with the topic of organ donation. The web documentary “Eigeninsinn im Bruderland” documents the history of migrants in the GDR. The “RomArchive” provides information about the culture of the Sinti and Roma.
The only winner of the entertainment category this year is “Karakaya Talk”. The Youtuber Rezo was awarded in the special category for his video “The Destruction of the CDU”.
The undoped Grimme Online Award is the most important German award for outstanding online journalism and has been awarded since 2001. Because of the corona pandemic, the winners were not honored this year at a gala, but in a live stream.
