Brazil eases covid-related restrictions on international travelers

The agency sanitary Brazil’s Anvisa issued a set of rules for international travelers arriving in the country on Saturday, relaxing restrictions related to the covid-19 pandemic when the health crisis subsides in the South American country.

Anvisa said that vaccinated Brazilians and foreigners are now exempt from submitting a covid-19 test with a negative or undetectable result. They are only required to present proof of vaccination, printed or electronic.

“In general, the new rules confirm vaccination as the basis of the national border policy for all means of transport,” Anvisa said in a statement.

“Complete vaccination is mandatory for all persons who meet the requirements for vaccination and who intend to enter Brazil,” the agency said.

According to the regulations, a traveler is considered fully vaccinated after two doses or a single dose of the covid vaccine, depending on the type of immunization.

The vaccination schedule must be completed at least 14 days before the departure date, Anvisa said. Travelers who are not fully vaccinated – as long as they are Brazilians and foreigners residing in the country – must present a covid-19 test with a negative or undetectable result, the entity added.

The agency also pointed out that foreigners who are not fully vaccinated are still prohibited from entering the country, with exceptions that it did not detail in the statement.
