Cuba launches Sandunga, the first streaming platform to promote its music

Havana Cuba – “Sandunga”, the first commercial music platform in streaming from Cubalaunched this Friday in Havana its international offer, in which users outside the island will be able to consume their products in electronic commerce.

Specialists from the state company for artistic and literary promotions Artex SA and its export agency SoyCubano -in charge of the initiative- recalled that “Sandunga” was born a year ago, focused on streaming and downloading audio and video content to promote and market all genres of Cuban music.

But after its first stage of operation, this digital platform has expanded and goes beyond the borders of the island also with an online store of physical products such as books, sheet music, musical instruments, records, explained at a press conference the manager of Image and Development of Artex, Yanae Naredo.

Currently the platform has a web version, a mobile application for the Android operating system and can be accessed from any device connected to the Internet.

In addition to offering an online course system, it includes the sale of digital books and musical scores. Users can also find musical genres, artists, composers, directors and authors of lyrics from different catalogues, access a CD, a “this is how it was done” and documentaries.

The directive indicated that “Sandunga” has as its main content providers the Cuban record companies BisMusic, EGREM, Abdala and Colibrí.

He specified that the greatest demand on the platform, with a current reach of some 13,000 users on the island, is popular dance music.

The development of “Sandunga” ran hand in hand with the non-state mipyme Lombao Estudios, one of the new economic actors approved by the Government in recent months.

Mario Lombaodirector of the enterprise, explained that the platform has diversified its virtual offers with the incorporation of new services such as the live transmission of musical events and concerts in addition to ticket sales.

“Sandunga” will also function as a social network, in which each musician will have their own profile that they can manage independently and users will be able to follow them, the developer said. He considered as his great challenge “to position Cuban music at a national and international level.”
