Starts shooting director Marta Elīna Martinson’s feature film “Tizlenes”

During the first days of filming, scenes were filmed in various retro-styled filming locations – daily school episodes in Lielupe Primary School, a fantasy scene in the lobby of Daile Theater, watching a movie in the Splendid Palace cinema, and ringing from the still popular telephone booths in central Riga. The film takes place in 1999, as the Millennium celebrations approach. The main characters of the film – three ninth-graders Sarmīte, Sveta and Katrīna have decided to radically change their lives and turn from the most ridiculous “teens” in the class into the most popular girls. Various developments make girls realize that pretending to be what you are is neither happiness nor style, and everything in life doesn’t happen like a movie.

Marta Elīna Martinsone: “Basically, this is a story about seeking and accepting oneself. Although the time of the film is a long time ago, the problems of teenagers have not changed – unfortunately, mobbing still takes place in schools, countless girls and boys face ridicule every day due to their appearance, which has lasting consequences even in adulthood. My film is a story about the fact that whatever is taught in school, being different and different is an advantage, not a disadvantage. And imagination has always been and will be a safe place to take refuge and where to look for answers. ”

Schoolgirls and students Asnāte Sofija Rožkalne, Ludmila Karpova, Katrīna Dambeniece, Gerda Embure, as well as Mārtiņš Aigars Ziedonis, Kristaps Tutāns and Mārtiņš Zeps are starring in the main roles of the film “Tizlene”. Experienced actors – Guna Zariņa, Imants Strads, Mārtiņš Kalita and others – also play in the film together with young people. The next stages of filming are scheduled for this spring and summer.

Director Marta Elīna Martinsone has previously worked in theater and cinema as a director, assistant director and screenwriter. Marta Elīna’s short film “Viesturs Kairišs comes out of the forest” (2018) won the “Big Kristaps” award in the “Best Student Film” category, but in 2019 she and Alisa Zariņš received the “Big Kristaps” award for the best screenplay for the feature film “Next” (2019).

The film “Tizlenes” is produced by the studio “Ego Media”; Among its works are the most watched films in Latvian cinemas in recent weeks, director Viesturs Kairiss’s “Piļsāta pi upis” (2019), Dāvis Sīmanis’ documentary “Mūris” (2018), Laima Žurgina’s documentary “Goat’s Dune in the Sky” (2019) and others. . Ilze Burkovska-Jakobsen’s full-length animated film “My Favorite War” is currently in production in the studio, the premiere is expected at the end of the summer.

The film’s producer Guntis Trekteris says: “The film” Tizlenes “is an” epic word of the year “, an epic interesting idea, because, firstly, comedy, secondly, teenagers – we have a complete lack of this kind of film.” The film is funded by the National Film Center.
