Massive Fire Engulfs Nordic Food Group Factory in Sainte-Perpétue, Quebec: No Injuries Reported

The Nordic Food Group, located on Rang Saint-Joseph in Sainte-Perpétue, was engulfed in flames Monday evening.

The first responders were called around 10:30 p.m. The Sainte-Perpétue firefighters had to call for help from other municipalities. Around fifty firefighters intervened to bring the fire under control.

Employees were at work when the fire broke out, but according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), no one was injured.

The SQ specifies that the damage is considerable and that the fire does not involve criminal elements.

With our 60,000 square foot factory operated by around fifty employees, we are the largest seafood processor in Quebec, we can read on the Nordic Food Group website.

They produce foods under the Passion de la mer and Passion Bistro brands.

The cause is still unknown at the moment, but according to human resources manager Grace Amaral, it was an explosion that occurred in a fryer.

Around 70 employees work at the factory, including 40 foreign workers. Nine employees were inside the factory at the time of the fire, but authorities reported no injuries.

The administration is currently meeting with employees to plan the next steps.

The fire caused losses of 15-20 million dollars, according to the factory director.
