Johnson will “reaffirm the need for Russia to make concessions and engage in diplomacy when it talks to President Putin this week,” a Downing Street spokesman said, not specifying the date of the talks.
The British prime minister is “committed to stepping up diplomatic efforts and stepping up deterrence to prevent bloodshed in Europe,” the Downing Street statement said.
Johnson is scheduled to visit the region in the coming days.
Relations between Russia and the West are at their lowest point since the end of the Cold War, when Moscow concentrated tens of thousands of troops on the Ukrainian border.
The British Foreign Office is expected to announce in Parliament on Monday the strengthening of the sanctions regime imposed on Russia against Russia’s strategic and financial interests.
