Honda Recalls Over 750,000 Vehicles Due to Airbag Hazards

Honda is recalling more than 750,000 vehicles due to a potentially deadly hazard with the vehicle’s airbag system, reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Federal safety regulators published the recall after learning about the unintentional deployment of some Honda vehicle airbags during a crash.

The NHTSA stated in the Feb. 5 recall that “the front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, failing to suppress the airbag as intended.”

The recall affects 16 Honda and Acura makes, as reported by federal officials.

Fortunately, as of January 19, Honda has not received any reports of injuries or deaths related to the issue, according to the NHTSA.

Main Affected Honda and Acura Models

The recall affects the following vehicle makes and models:

  • 2020-2022 Pilot, Accord, Civic sedan, HR-V, and Odyssey
  • 2020 Civic coupe, Fit
  • 2021-2022 Civic hatchback
  • 2021 Civic Type R, Insight
  • 2020-2021 CR-V, CR-V Hybrid, Passport, Ridgeline, and Accord Hybrid
  • 2020 Acura MDX
  • 2022 Acura MDX
  • 2020-2022 Acura RDX
  • 2020-2021 Acura TLX vehicles

Actions to be taken by Honda Vehicle Owners

Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors at no cost, as stated by federal safety regulators.

Notification letters will be mailed to owners by March 18.

If you own one of the affected vehicles, you can contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. The recall numbers for Honda are XHP and VHQ.

Additionally, those who have already paid for these repairs out of their own pockets may be eligible for reimbursement, as notified by federal regulators.

For more information, owners are encouraged to contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov.

Conclusion

Honda is taking significant measures by recalling over 750,000 vehicles to address the potential hazards associated with the airbag system. The affected vehicles span various models for the Honda and Acura brands. Owners are strongly encouraged to take immediate action as directed by the NHTSA to ensure their safety and the safety of those on the road.
