Elmhurst Hospital Celebrates the Lives of a Dozen Adults Born in its Facilities

The Elmhurst hospital celebrated the birth of a dozen people, now adults, in its facilities.

Among them, employees, the president of the City Council, Adrienne Adams, and also the anchor of our sister network New York 1, Cheryl Wills.

The Sign Collado family celebrated with their children, the work of the employees of NYC Health & Hospital, in Elmhurst, for their birth.

“I was born here, I had my first job here and I had my children here. This hospital is part of my history,” says Stephanie Collado.

One of them is Junia Valerio who was born in the hospital. She has been a nurse on the delivery floor for eleven years. She says she decided to work here to serve her community.

“To be grateful for what they did for me because my mother’s birth was very difficult and she was here for several weeks and basically they saved my life and I wanted to thank other family members for what they did for me,” says Junia Valeria, a nurse at Elmhurst. .

Members of the obstetrics department spoke of the importance of the hospital in providing service to the community regardless of the immigration status of its patients. Elmhurst Hospital has been open for 190 years.

City spokesperson Adrienne Adams spoke of her birth at a time when mortality among the African-American community was high and still remains at high levels in recent times.
