The United States is preparing for a historic event. Donald Trump will appear in court in New York and become the first president in US history to be charged with a crime. Trump is being prosecuted over a scandal in which he allegedly paid a porn actress with money from the presidential campaign to keep quiet about their affair.
Ex-president and candidate for the presidential seat for next year, Donald Trump, will sit in the dock on Tuesday. The New York police are preparing for the protests that Trump himself has called for. He refers to the investigation as a “witch hunt”. He also made a video for his supporters.
“They’re only fighting me because I’m fighting for you. They can’t buy me and they can’t control me, and that scares them beyond belief. If we don’t win in 2024, our country will decline,” Donald Trump said.
The former US president left his residence in Florida shortly after noon local time on Monday. After about a three-hour flight, he arrived in New York. He will spend the night in Trump Tower, from which he will go to court in the morning.
The police also closed some streets leading to the court building. There are calls on social media to execute Alvin Bragg, the U.S. attorney handling Trump’s case. Supporters are now gathering in front of the Florida residence of the ex-president, whom Trump even came to welcome on Sunday. He is to speak to them on Tuesday after the court.
However, the trial itself will probably start in a few months. Demonstrations by his supporters are feared by the United States following past experiences, such as when Trump refused to concede defeat in the presidential election three years ago and his supporters stormed the US Congress building.
