‘Debts’ couple yelling “Singer Rain pays off rice”, fined

A fine was imposed on the couple who made a fuss about going to the house of singer-actor Rain (real name Jung Ji-hoon, 38) and paying their parents’ debts.
According to the legal community on the 16th, Judge Yoo Chang-hoon, who was solely responsible for criminal 7 of the Seoul Western District Law, was fined 700,000 each to Mr. A (79) and Mr. B (73) who were handed over to trial for violating the law on punishment such as violence (such as damage to communal property). Won was sentenced.

The couple claimed that Rain’s father, Jeong-mo, and his wife, while operating a rice cake shop in a market in Yongsan-gu, Seoul 20 years ago, bought rice in credit at their rice shop and have not paid back until now.

In 2018, they posted an article on the online community saying that they are accusing singer Rain’s parents, and filed a celebrity “debt too”. Mr. A and Mrs. A filed a 50 million won civil suit against Mr. Jeong in September 2019, but lost in January of this year.

Also, in February of this year, Mr. A and Mrs. A visited the house where Rain, Kim Tae-hee and his father, Jung Mo, lived and knocked on the door several times, yelling, “Please pay the price for the rice.” After that, they broke the door opener worth 200,000 won and forcibly opened the door to invade the entrance and the yard of the house.

In response, Rain filed for a temporary injunction against Mr. A’s couple and the court cited it in April.

The judge said, “The victim has suffered considerable mental suffering, but does not want to be punished, and takes into account the life cycles of both sides and the current situation of elderly people, who have lived through document exchanges in difficult times long ago.”
