The number of infections in the United States in the 24 hours to 20.30 on Wednesday (3.30 pm on Thursday) has increased by 52,898, reaching 2,682,270.
706 new Covid-19-related deaths were also reported in 24 hours, bringing the total number of such deaths in the United States to 128,028.
The number of new infections in the United States in recent days has been around 40,000 per day, but 42,528 new infections were registered on Tuesday.
Several major cities, including Houston, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona, have also seen an increase in new hospitalizations for Covid-19 patients.
On Wednesday, 8,076 new cases of Covid-19 infection were recorded in Texas, a new one-day record that exceeded the previous day’s number by more than a thousand.
Due to the rapid increase in Covid-19 cases, several US states have paused economic reopening.
