Will iPhone use USB-C next year?

Merdeka.com – Apple has confirmed that it will change the iPhone connector, from the previous Lightning, to the USB-C type. Apple’s confirmation follows a new European Union policy that requires electronic devices to use USB-C.

“We had to adapt, we had no choice,” Apple chief marketing officer Greg Joswiak told Joanna Stern. The Wall Street newspaperas reported by BGRThursday (27/10).

However, it looks like Apple is still giving up on Lightning, which has accompanied the iPhone’s journey since the first generation. Joswiak said, Lightning is a good charger connector, with a total of billions of users.

While still adhering to existing policies, he voiced Apple’s opposition to the government. According to him, these policies can hinder innovation.

Joswiak refused to provide information on the launch time. He never mentioned that the next generation iPhone would have a USB-C connector. However, it is speculated that the iPhone 15, due out next year, will be the first USB-C iPhone model in Apple’s history.

Meanwhile, the European Union has set a deadline of 2024 for the switch of all electronic devices to USB-C. That said, any device started before that timeout can actually bypass the USB-C port.

It is known, some time ago Apple launched the iPad 10, the latest tablet to have USB-C connectivity. This makes the iPhone the only product in Apple’s main line that doesn’t support this connector.

Additionally, accessories like AirPods also don’t support USB-C connectivity. Although it is almost certain that Apple will change it soon.
