The Van Nieuwkerk case shows that the Netherlands has become a country of weaklings, Jort Kelder knows: “You can see in those transmission conflicts that those 20-year-olds are so sensitive.”
“They were raised by their parents with just plaudits and medals, and then there’s a performance review and somebody says, ‘Yeah, but that wasn’t very good.’ And then come the tears and burnout the next day. This is the society we are in now.”
According to Jort, it’s a real shame that Matthijs was thrown in the trash. The presenter even claims that his TV colleague was murdered. “I really think it’s the biggest public performance since Johan and Cornelis de Witt. 1672, the Disaster Year”, now adds in the NPO 3 program ‘Those are no jokes’.
Jort thinks it was blown up too much. “I knew Matthijs could be a bit moody and that sometimes a door slammed shut after the broadcast when speaking to editors, but what you read about de Volkskrant… Yes, but well, that’s obviously a summary of fifteen years of setbacks for some.”
