The residents of the gardens demand a bicycle path – Jauns.lv

Garden representative Agita Vismane-Bitmane points out that the residents were shocked by the intention to build a bicycle path only to Ķengaraga Street. It turned out that there is no such decision. If the residents do not receive official information about the construction plans, a picket is planned for August 23 in Dārziņi.

Riga City Council explains that the intention to complete the bicycle route has not been abandoned, but it is necessary to find financing and achieve the alienation of land plots. The Centrs-Dārziņi cycle path is planned to be 17 kilometers long, part of which is already the Ķengarags promenade, which was built about ten years ago. There is still a section to Dārziņi, Aroniju Street.

There are several encumbrances on the route, one of them private owners who did not give their consent to buy back their land for the needs of the municipality. A total of 13 plots of land need to be alienated. Several ditches have to be crossed, so it is necessary to build bridges over the water flows into the Daugava, thus the costs can be measured in several million euros.

Evaluating the available financing, a decision has been made to implement those sections that do not require huge investments – now the City Council has decided to take a loan from the Treasury for the construction of the section from the South Bridge to Ķengaraga Street. It is planned to borrow 150,000 euros for this section, 1.04 million euros for the construction of the Krasta Street bicycle road.
