The Estonian government does not want to send a misleading signal to the public, so the restrictions will not be eased yet

“On Tuesday, we discussed the issue of coronavir virus restrictions in the government and decided not to take any relief from next week, as the rate of infection has been very rapid over the past week. (..) he told the public broadcaster ERR.

The government discussed the limits on restaurant opening hours and the number of participants allowed at the event on Tuesday and will continue to discuss the issue next Tuesday.

According to the Minister, the conditions for easing the restrictions are stabilization of the situation and reduction of the workload of hospitals.

510 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in Estonian hospitals, 288 of whom are severely ill.

As Kick said, the end of the pandemic will be when the number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals does not exceed one hundred.

“Of course, sooner or later there will be an agreement on the abolition of the Covid-19 certificate in the country. At the same time, I would like to emphasize that vaccination plays a key role in protecting one’s life and health, whether or not one is applying for a certificate,” he said.

In early February, the Estonian government allowed the use of the Covid-19 certificate to be revoked from 21 February, three days before Estonia’s Independence Day, if less than 25 new coronavirus patients per day were admitted to hospitals in the previous ten days, but it became clear last week that this would not be possible.

A total of 8,439 people were diagnosed with coronavirus infection in Estonia last day, and 17 deaths were caused by Covid-19. The proportion of positive tests was 63.2%, but the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population, calculated by the Estonian Department of Health, has risen to 6,337.13.
