The Decline of Starfield: Why Bethesda’s Latest RPG is Failing to Impress and Gain Recognition

Before the release, Fr Starfield it spoke at every turn. The huge RPG from the creators of Skyrim and Fallout 4 was raised to the skies and the expectations were unbelievable. After the release, however, interest quickly waned, many didn’t even finish the space adventure, and the game de facto stopped being talked about. This is evidenced by the gaming Oscar nominations. Starfield was not nominated for Game of the Year and has a chance to win in only one category.

The Game Awards is of course one poll out of many. But in recent years, it has become the most watched gala in the video game world and is considered the most prestigious. That’s why it’s called the gaming Oscars. Yet the news from Bethesda Game Studios is in danger of being left in the vinegar and he won’t get any statue here. In the RPG category, Starfield competes with Baldur’s Gate 3 by Larian Studios. Baldur’s Gate 3 has eight nominations along with Alan Wake 2. Baldur’s Gate 3 is expected to win almost everything and be the winner in the battle with Starfield in the RPG genre. It is in the hands of players from all over the world.

WASTED POTENTIAL?

Players are not surprised by Starfield’s failure in The Game Awards nominations. On Income there are almost seven thousand comments and according to many of them, the game does not deserve a nomination. Players cite wasted potential and compare Todd Howard’s work to Game of the Year nominees Alan Wake 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. There are comments that Starfield is outdated, has a lot of bugs and issues and is not up to par with the nominated games. We’re supposed to appreciate it later when it’s in better shape and the community makes big mods.

“I really enjoy and like Starfield, but I wasn’t particularly surprised by it,” writes InitialQuote000 and confirms to the jury what the nomination has submitted. According to others, it would be better if Starfield remained in development for another year. Then it would have more content, possibly less bugs and could be awesome. Now it’s just supposed to be good and fun, but not 100%.

Similar opinions can also be seen on the social network X (formerly Twitter). A lot of players have put a lot of hours into Starfield, they like it, but they don’t consider it a GOTY candidate. I agree with these opinions. I’ve been playing Starfield through Game Pass on PC, but after playing for a few hours I can’t bring myself to turn the game back on and continue the adventure. That’s why I’m inclined to appreciate Starfield later. I had the same thing with Cyberpunk 2077. With it, I waited for fixes and improvements to enjoy the cyberpunk RPG from the authors of The Witcher. And I thoroughly enjoyed it on PS5.

How are the previous hits from Bethesda Game Studios? The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has won numerous awards and received a golden joystick at The Golden Joystick Award. Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 were similar. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has achieved the greatest success, boasting a total of 229 Game of the Year titles. It is the sixth most awarded game in this category ever.

By the way, not much is said about it, but Hogwarts Legacy he doesn’t have a single nomination from February.
