Reopening of a park pool in the Bronx

With a Caribbean atmosphere, music and lots of smiles, the Bronx Parks Commissioner, Iris Rodriguez Rosa, reopened a swimming pool in Van Cortlandt Park taking a step forward with a refreshing dip.

And you could see the happy faces of a group of children who are now enjoying the work done during the pandemic to give this pool a new, clean and quite refreshing air.

“It is very important for the community that after the entire pandemic, everything that the community has suffered, here we have the opportunity for them to enjoy this day,” said Rodríguez Rosa.

“It is a pool that is clean, that is good, that is ‘Community friendly’, ‘family friendly’ that is, it is very good” said a young swimmer.

Thousands of people from the Bronx have bathed in this pool over the years … that’s how it was before … and that’s how it remains now. It is and will continue to be everyone’s pool with free access.

“We are as if it were in a private club,” said Rodríguez Rosa.

“Oh, better than before,” said another young swimmer.

More Parks Department outdoor pools will open from Saturday, June 26 through Sunday, September 12.

“We have two sessions, the pool will be open from 11 in the morning to 7 at night but we have two sessions, one that begins at 11 and one that begins at 4,” added Rodríguez Rosa.

Van Cortlandt Pool is one of three new ‘Cool Pools’ this year, along with the Howard and Bushwick Pools in Brooklyn. These pools have been transformed to offer a colorful and pleasant summer to the community.

And it is very easy to get here this pool you just have to come on the subway to the station at 242 and Broadway, you get off at Van Cortlandt park a few steps away it is a very short walk and you will find this phenomenal place to cool off in the summer totally free. It seems like a private club.
