Mayor Femke Halsema has immediately closed Café Del Mondo on the Nieuwmarkt after a ‘Friday afternoon drink’ by Member of Parliament Wybren van Haga. Van Haga held the drink there to support the pub, which had previously disregarded the corona rules. It had to be a video showing how Van Haga stands up for entrepreneurs in need. This led to further distress for the entrepreneur.

“The son-in-law of the owner of Del Mondo had approached me because his father-in-law is in huge trouble due to all the lockdowns and asked me if I wanted to give him a heart. We were there from four o’clock to half past five to drink a little chocolate and record a film,” Van Haga told De Telegraaf.
Because it was poured after 17:00, the mayor has decided that the business must be closed for a week. The sanction came after the property had previously committed “several offences.”
