Farfans, 35, signed a contract with Lokomotiv in 2017, but has not played at the club this season after a knee injury from last year’s Copa America tournament.

“The coronavirus has been diagnosed to our player Farfan. Best wishes to your health, Hef. We wish you a speedy recovery,” said “Lokomotiv” in the club’s “Twitter”.

“Three days ago, Farfan started to have a headache and felt weak,” the club’s doctor, Nikita Kagarlickis, said on the unit’s website. “The cough and fever started. The computed tomography showed changes in the lungs typical of viral pneumonia. The player passed the tests and after three days the responses were positive for Covid-19. We started treatment immediately and hope that in three to four weeks Hefs will resume training.”

The illness was diagnosed only five weeks before the resumption of the Premier League season. The Russian Premier League, which has not been played since March 17, will resume on June 21 behind closed doors.

Russia ranks second in the world after the United States with 272,043 cases of coronavirus infection.

The total number of officially confirmed deaths on Saturday was reported by 2,537 people.
