It’s summer time and, to enjoy it, the Parks Department officially opens the pool season today. The opening was celebrated yesterday with a community party at the Highbridge pool.
Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine and Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue attended the event.
The city has been working to increase the number of lifeguards at pools and beaches. The Parks Department operates more than 50 outdoor pools in all five boroughs. All will open today before noon and until 7 pm.
The Parks Department initiative joins the Education Department to recover the summer meals program that offers food to children under 18 years of age.
