The Chamber of Deputies adopted on Tuesday the draft law of the Government which provides for the prohibition of cigarettes that have aromatic capsules in the filter and of the mentholated ones.
They are to be banned from being sold in stages, until 2019.
Specifically, menthol cigarettes will be able to be sold until 2019. However, those with capsules will disappear from the market, and the packages with such cigarettes that are currently on the market will be able to be put on sale until May 20, 2017, explained Magdalena Ciobanu, an expert in the Ministry of Health for Tobacco Control.
“When the law enters into force, ie 30 days after its publication in the Official Gazette, flavored tobacco products will have to disappear from the market, more specifically cigarettes that currently have flavored capsules in the filter.
With the date of entry into force of the law, the producers must manufacture the cigarette packs according to the new rules “, said Magdalena Ciobanu.

At the same time, the new pack of cigarettes will have a graphic image on 65% of the surface of the pack.
“These images will be on both sides because it will not be possible to hide the image on the shelf of tobacco products.
They will have to be changed every January 1 from now on so that people do not get used to the images and are surprised by other images “, said the expert from the Ministry of Health for tobacco control.
According to her, the packages inscribed according to the old rules can be sold until May 20, 2017.
The bill adopted on Tuesday aims to fully transpose into our legislation some European directives from 2014.
The Chamber of Deputies is the decision-making body in this case, after the vote the project will be sent for promulgation to President Klaus Iohannis. After the law will be published in the Official Gazette, the provisions will enter into force after 30 days.
