Lukashenko admits that “slightly sat down” as president

“Yes, I may be a little seated,” Lukashenko was quoted as saying in the Telegram channel.

“Probably not only the TV shows me, but also the iron and the kettle. But really, only I can defend the Belarusians at the moment,” the leader is convinced.

Roman Babayan, editor-in-chief of Govorit Moscow, was one of the Russian journalists interviewed Lukashenko.

During the interview, the President also addressed the shots that caused the resonance of the panels, in which the leader is seen with a machine gun in his hands during his post-election protests in his Minsk residence. Images on the web caused both surprise and countless mumbles and thefts.

“My appearance with the machine gun meant only one thing – I have not run anywhere and I am ready to defend my country to the end,” Lukashenko explained.

Protests against the rigging of the August 9 presidential election, which has often escalated into protesters’ clashes with security forces, continue in Belarus. Thousands have been detained and several hundred injured in protests.

According to official results, Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994, won 80.1% of the vote, while opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovska won 10.1%, but the opposition believes the election results were fake and Tikhanovska won the election convincingly. The European Union also does not recognize the election results.
