Little Island Park conquers all New Yorkers

On 13th Street, right on the banks of the Hudson, a new attraction stands out for its architecture: the Little Island Park.

And it is that the design of this park, resembles tulip leaves floating on the water.

Little Island Executive Coordinator Jessie Long explains about this new town: “It’s a place where people can meditate, where people can be calm, like they can breathe in the madness that is New York.”

The small island stretches out where Pier 54 used to be, on a two-and-a-half acre site. It contains about 350 species of plants and 114 trees that will reach a height of 60 feet: “Part of the design of the plants is that, to regenerate again, to be born again, I think it is a message to the city of New York” Long says.

The park has an amphitheater that has a capacity for about 700 people and, starting this summer, concerts and Broadway plays will be presented so that attendees can enjoy them.

This park was made possible by a $ 260 million donation from the Diller-Von Furstenberg family, who also pledged to donate an additional $ 120 million for future maintenance.

Some of the attendees shared their opinions about the park: “Someone told me that it was a lot of money to make this park and that someone donated and it is seen that they have a lot with the money.”

Inside Little Island there are food areas, viewpoints with privileged views and there will also be educational activities.

To entertain the whole family, this park has some cultural activities, such as a keyboard that is activated when visitors alight on it.

On his first day of activities, he registered lines to enter. It is open from 6 to 1 in the morning for free, but from noon to 8 at night you need to make a reservation: “I really liked the park, I’m babysitter and I take care of the baby. And we loved the park, it is beautiful for children and for adults “, details another visitor.
