Latvian goalkeeper “Valmieras” Matrevics moves to FC “Riga”

The 23-year-old Matrevic has represented “Valmiera” for the past two seasons, appearing in 62 Premier League games, keeping 22 clean sheets.

The 201cm tall goalkeeper is a student of “Babīte”.

In 2015, at the age of 15, Matrevic signed a contract with English Premier League club West Ham United’s academy. In this club, Matrevic played in the Under 18 and Under 23 teams. After that, Matrevic played in the English clubs “Barnet” and “Hendon” for three years.

Last season, the goals of “Riga” were guarded by Roberts Ozols and Nils Puriņš.

Matrevics has played two games for the Latvian national team so far.

Meanwhile, Latvian soccer club RFS has extended the deal with central midfielder Dmitrija Zelenkova by three years, the unit announced on Thursday.

Zelenkovs, who previously represented Latvian superleague football team ‘Metta’ and played for several years in the system of Italian club ‘Empoli’, joined RFS in July. Last season he played twice in the Premier League and represented the RFS second team in the Future League.

On the other hand, in the Under-21 team, Zelenkovs scored two goals in 17 matches.

In the past season, RFS, which also played in the group stage of the UEFA Conference League, finished the Latvian championship in third place, but failed in the final match of the Latvian Cup.
