Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov to be Heard in Committee Investigating Martin Bojanov Activity

The committee that investigates the activity of Martin Bojanov, will also listen Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov

Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov will be heard in the parliamentary committee for the Notary until he has vacated his post. This was stated by its chairman Nikola Minchev after the meeting on Tuesday, when the three chief prosecutors Borislav Sarafov, Ivan Geshev and Sotir Tsatsarov did not appear. In his letter to the parliament, Tsatsarov, for example, explains why he refuses. One of his reasons is that the deputies did not inquire whether Martin Bojanov was an associate of the Ministry of the Interior and what valuable information he provided if he was.

It turned out that they had already asked officially and an answer from Kalin Stoyanov was received, but it is in the secret file because the information is classified. It is precisely for this reason that Stoyanov will be heard in the commission, probably in a closed session, Nikola Minchev explained. Several of the people’s representatives have already read the minister’s answer as to whether the Notary was an agent of the Ministry of the Interior, but they have no right to make it public in order not to violate the law. However, they unofficially confirmed what was reported by the Anti-Corruption Fund, that Martin Bojanov was a police informant and was registered in 2005 by the criminalist Viktor Mladenov, who worked at the Third Police Station. This information, but without the name of the officer, was presented already in the second meeting of the commission by judge Vladislava Tsarigradska. Then she announced that Bojanov’s leading officer had been forced to leave after the scandals surrounding the Notary and his influence in the judicial system. Kalin Stoyanov

According to the Anti-Corruption Fund, Viktor Mladenov made numerous unregulated inquiries in the Ministry of Internal Affairs system about people Martin Bojanov was interested in, including witnesses against him. An inspection showed it already 2 years ago, but no one was punished. According to the non-governmental organization, drugs were found in the SS Club of the Notary before his murder, but the case was covered up. And after he was shot, his wife Gergana first called a senior police officer, and then officially reported the crime to 112.

Asked repeatedly whether the Notary was an agent or informant of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov explained that such information would be given to the prosecutor’s office if requested. In the case against Bojanov for money laundering, property fraud and threats to magistrates, such was not received until last week, when the city prosecutor Iliana Kirilova was heard before the deputies.

In 2005, when Bojanov was registered as an informant of the Ministry of the Interior, an investigation was conducted against him for the theft of the case against the notary Slavi Krasevski by the Supreme Court of Cassation. Bojanov was later acquitted of this crime by Judge Georgi Ushev, who later headed the specialized and then the appellate specialized criminal court. Apart from the notary’s past as an agent, the deputies also asked Kalin Stoyanov about his relations with the former director of GDBOP Lubomir Yanev, under whom Bojanov’s wife was appointed as an investigative police officer. Yanev now works in the criminal department of the SDVR. He was interrogated by the prosecutor’s office and did not deny his contacts with the Notary, and the Ministry of the Interior claimed that their meetings were documented and there were no grounds for verification. Such is the case for two policemen from the SDVR, who are reported to have guarded Martin Bojanov’s SS Club.
