According to the agency LETA, when the buses of the municipal SIA “Rīgas satiksme” departed from the destination “Abrenes Street”, where the flow of people was not high in the early morning, some residents had put on face masks before boarding, some did it immediately after boarding, while others face shields were not used at all. No bus driver reprimanded the passengers.
The people who had taken care of the face shield mostly used hygienic masks. Some had put them on incorrectly without the mask covering their nose or, in some cases, even their mouths, with the mask in their neck area.
A similar situation was observed in the city center, near the Central Station – with some passengers wearing masks, but some not.
According to the agency LETA, in the minibus Rīga-Jaunmārupe two boarded passengers had put on face masks, while a driver whose seat is not separated by a safety glass did not have them.
LETA has already reported that two groups of people have been identified who may not use face shields in public transport. These are children under the age of 13 because they often do not have the skills to use a face mask properly and there is less risk of Covid-19 spreading among children. Similarly, if a passenger has a manifest mobility disorder or mental illness which results in a person lacking the ability or skill to use the mouth and nose mask, its use need not be required and the person must be allowed to remain in the vehicle.
The use of mouth and nose pads also applies to school buses, which are equated with public transport.
This security measure is currently set for one month – until November 6.
The controller and the conductor have the right to disembark from a public vehicle a passenger who does not comply with the requirements specified in the regulations on epidemiological restrictions, inviting him or her to voluntarily disembark from the public vehicle at the next stop or control point on the city route. In turn, the bus driver has the right not to pick up and disembark passengers who do not comply with the requirements specified in the regulations on epidemiological restrictions.
Medical, non-medical or hygienic masks, as well as visors and face shields can be used as mouth and nose masks.
