In hospitals, separate departments are completely reorganized for the treatment of Covid-19 patients / Article / LSM.lv

One of the most worrying indicators of the prevalence of Covid-19 is the number of people hospitalized for the coronavirus. At present, 113 people are treated in hospitals, which is the largest number of Covid-19 patients in hospital at the same time. 250 beds will be the limit at which the system of health care services may have to be significantly changed. True, hospitals are already reorganizing certain departments to treat Covid-19 patients.

For the time being, beds in hospitals are sufficient for patients with both coronavirus and other diseases. But in many treatment facilities, separate wards have been completely reorganized to treat Covid-19 patients.

“Currently, we have partially re-profiled the divisions, because we had both anti-Covid-19 chambers, Covid-19 chambers and Covid-19 boxes. We already have such a Covid-19 unit. There we can accommodate 12 patients, now there are nine. We have two places in the resuscitation ward, which is equipped to receive such patients. Fortunately, such patients have not yet been. Even if it weren’t, ”said Mārīte Kūla, Head of the Epidemiological Service of SIA Liepājas regionalālā slimnīca.

Inpatients Covid-19 patients

  • In total: 113
  • In the last 24 hours: + 17
  • 10 severe course of the disease

  • Riga East Clinical University Hospital: 72
  • Vidzeme Hospital: 12
  • Daugavpils Regional Hospital: 9
  • Liepaja Regional Hospital: 8
  • Riga Psychiatry and Narcology Center: 8
  • North Kurzeme Regional Hospital: 3
  • Rezekne Hospital: 1

Recent data from the National Health Service show that 113 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in hospital, including 17 hospitalized patients. Ten patients have a severe disease.

At the Liepāja Hospital, the statistics currently show only eight patients, as one young person was hospitalized on Friday. 12 persons are treated in Vidzeme Hospital, 9 in Daugavpils Regional Hospital, less in other regions. But the overwhelming majority – in Riga.

As the number of patients in the inpatient center of the Latvian Center for Infectious Diseases increases, Riga East Hospital (RAKUS) has also placed Covid-19 patients in the main building of Gaiļezers and is ready to do so in the Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Center. However, be warned that with the rapid increase in the number of patients in hospitals, doctors may not be able to cope with everything and may have to temporarily refuse some healthcare services.

“If we feel that there is a shortage of staff, then the next steps are to reduce the rest of the usual [pacientu] the amount.

So we have to go back to the same thing as it was in the spring, when outpatient services are reduced, limited services are limited. Unfortunately, this is the way we can redeploy staff internally. The burden on doctors is very high at the moment. Put your hat off in front of all the doctors who are currently fighting with it all, ”admitted the Chairman of the Board of RAKUS Imants Paeglītis.

But what is the maximum number of beds? “At the moment, I would say that if we have 250 beds in which Covid-19 patients are treated, this is the upper limit at which the provision of all other health care services does not have to be significantly reorganized,” Health Minister Ilze Ņķele informed this week. .

With the increase in the prevalence of Covid-19 and the number of inpatient coronavirus patients, the Emergency Medical Service has been instructed to transport patients with chronic diseases outside Riga to small hospitals, thus freeing up places in Cospid-19 patients and people with acute illnesses in large hospitals.
