In April, the unemployment rate in Latvia was higher than the EU average

According to Eurostat, the highest unemployment rate among EU member states in April was in Spain alone – 14.8%. Latvia is followed by Cyprus – 8.9%, France – 8.7%, Lithuania – 8.6%, Croatia – 8.1%, Sweden – 7.9% and Luxembourg – 7.5%.

The lowest unemployment rate in April was registered in the Czech Republic – 2.1%, Poland – 2.9%, the Netherlands – 3.4% and Germany – 3.5%.

The EU average unemployment rate, according to seasonally adjusted data, rose to 6.6% in April from 6.4% in March.

On average in the euro area, unemployment rose to 7.3% in April, from 7.1% in March.

Eurostat estimates that there were 14.079 million unemployed in the bloc in April, of whom 11,919 million were in the eurozone. Compared to March, the number of unemployed has increased by 397,000 in the EU and by 211,000 in the euro area.

Unemployment data for April are not available for Estonia, Greece and Hungary.
