Fifty Peruvian Cajones Played in The Bronx in Unique Tribute to Paco de Lucía

Fifty Peruvian cajones played in The Bronx in a unique tribute to the guitarist Paco de LucÃa, who masterfully introduced this instrument to flamenco.

The “cajoneada” is an initiative of the New York Flamenco Festival, which this year celebrates its twenty-third anniversary since its creation.

The tribute took place on Saturday at the Rincón Criollo, a meeting point for the Puerto Rican community where they organize cultural activities all year round.

All the people who wanted to participate in this curious tribute gathered there, where in some cases they received some ideas so that the cajons sounded good and in unison.

Some of the participants brought their own cajons, while the festival organization provided several made of cardboard by ‘Meinl Percussion’ that, despite not having the usual materials for this instrument, sound good for this type of event.

Both the members of this community and residents of The Bronx joined the event in which the origins of the instrument were also explained and how Paco de Lucía adapted it to flamenco, making it today an infallible element in these recitals.
