Covid: still 2,499 cases in one day, the victims stable, +23. Rt at 1.01, in 11 Regions is higher – Health

New infections for Covid 19 in Italy remain high for the second consecutive day. In the last 24 hours, 2,499 were recorded (compared to 2,548 the day before). There is still a record of swabs: those carried out were 120,301, about two thousand more. The total number of infected people since the beginning of the emergency rises to 319,908. The increase in the number of victims is stable: 23 in one day, for a total of 35,941.

In the period 10-23 September 2020, the transmissibility index Rt calculated on symptomatic cases is equal to 1.01. There are 12 Regions / PPAA with an Rt greater than 1 this week. This is what is evidenced by the weekly monitoring of the Ministry of Health and Higher Institute of Health, relating to the week 21-27 September. I’m Piedmont (1.22), Campania with (1.19) and Sicily with (1.19) the three regions with the highest contagion index Rt. In all, the regions that have exceeded the threshold value of one are currently 11 plus two autonomous provinces.

The regions with the lowest value are Basilicata, Molise and Emilia Romagna. However, “the national transmission index must be interpreted with caution – states the report. In fact, the RT calculated on symptomatic cases, while remaining the most reliable indicator at a regional level and comparable over time for monitoring transmissibility, could underestimate slightly the actual transmission of the virus nationwide “.

A total of 3,266 active outbreaks were reported, of which 909 were new, both increasing for the ninth consecutive week (2,868 active outbreaks were reported in the previous monitoring week, of which 832 new). There were also 14 outbreaks reported this week in which transmission may have occurred in the school setting, although it is currently not always confirmed. In the coming weeks, the impact of infections in schools will be better assessed.

The percentage of outbreaks that occurred in the family remains stable (76.5% of all active outbreaks vs 76.1% the previous week). The percentage of outbreaks verified in the workplace is increasing (7.2% vs 5.6% last week) and the number of outbreaks associated with recreational activities decreased (4.5% vs 6.3% the previous week). This is highlighted by the weekly monitoring of the Ministry of Health-Iss.

The virus is now circulating throughout the country and an increase is confirmed in the new cases reported in Italy for the ninth consecutive week with a cumulative incidence in the last 14 days of 34.2 per 100 thousand inhabitants (period 14 / 9-27 / 9 against 31.4 per 100 thousand inhabitants in the 7 / 9-20 / 9). This week there is a slight increase in the median age of cases (42 years compared to 41 the previous week).

Nationally, the number of hospitalized people continues to rise (2846 vs 2365 in the medical area, 254 vs 222 in intensive care on 27/9 and 20/9, respectively) and, consequently, the occupancy rates of hospitalizations in the area increase medical and intensive care. Therefore, the need to comply with the quarantine measures and other measures recommended by the health authorities is reiterated both for people returning from countries for which quarantine is envisaged, and following a request from the health authority having been identified as close contacts of a case.

Even in Basilicata it becomes mandatory to wear a mask even outdoors. This is foreseen by an order signed today by the president of the regional council, Vito Bardi. The use of the mask “is mandatory – it is explained in a press release issued by the press office – even in closed places accessible to the public, including means of transport, and in the spaces pertaining to places and premises open to the public. excluding children under the age of six, people with disabilities that are not compatible with masks and those who practice physical activity and sports “.
