Corona situation, January 12, 2021: Incidence figures in Saxony-Anhalt well above the national average

The 7-day incidence in Saxony-Anhalt reached a new record on Tuesday. The number indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants have tested positive for Corona in the last seven days. According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the value on Tuesday was 257.25 – and thus almost 100 above the national average of 164 determined by the Robert Koch Institute. According to the ministry, the Saalekreis had by far the highest seven-day incidence with 476.57, followed by the district of Wittenberg with 431.36.

Death rates are also very high

37 coronavirus-related deaths were reported across the country Monday through Tuesday. The numbers have been at a high level for days, the day before there were 44 corona-related deaths. In total, almost 1,000 people (969) in the country have now died with or from the virus.

Meanwhile, 196 intensive care and ventilation beds are occupied with Covid 19 patients in Saxony-Anhalt, 111 of them are artificially ventilated. In Saxony-Anhalt, 39,560 corona cases have been recorded since the start of the pandemic and 3,468 sick people have been treated in hospitals. In the meantime the vaccinations are in progress. So far there have been a total of 24,413, as the ministry further announced. 2,499 were added on Monday.
